Why I built it
I wanted one place to show my projects that felt more alive than a resume or a list of repos. Then I kept adding the things I use every day: a planner for school, to-do lists, notes, a watchlist tracker, and a way to take orders for my 3D printing. Inkference is all of that in one app.
What you can do
- Portfolio: experience, education, merits and skills on one timeline, with skill levels and "last used" for recruiters. Upload a resume and open it right in the app. Pin your best work to the front of each tab.
- Projects: galleries, milestones, a write-up and a devlog. Teammates get titles and teams, admins review the work each person adds, and verified work shows on their profile as experience.
- Posts and feed: photo carousels, likes, saves, comments with replies, tagging people and #hashtags. The For You feed learns what you like (tags, kinds and people like you) and mixes in projects, galleries and binders.
- Messages: live 1-on-1 and group chats with typing, "Seen", reactions, replies and rich share cards. People who aren't your friends land in message requests.
- Productivity: planners with Board, Week and Month views, to-dos with times, push reminders and a weekly summary every Sunday.
- Drive: notes that save as you type, trackers for episodes or chapters, sheets with charts and CSV import, PDFs, and Docs with tabs, math, tables, pictures and tap-to-reveal question boxes.
- Library: turn a doc into a study binder you can share or sell. Readers pick up where they left off, follow, like and save it, ask questions per page, and read it offline.
- Booths: a side business page with services, prices, custom questions, an order queue, customer groups and reviews.
- Enterprises: pages for companies, clubs and teams, approved by an admin. Your role shows under your name and in your experience like LinkedIn, and stays as Former after you leave.
- Communities: light spaces with up to 5 channels: announcements with a thread for each post, Q&A with accepted answers, and live chat.
- Workstation: a desk for studying. Notes, Docs, Sheets, binders, notebooks, planners and to-dos sit side by side as live cards on one big board.
- Study spots: pick a real place on a 3D globe, sit at a table and focus with other people. U of T St. George is rebuilt in 3D, with Myhal, Bahen and Robarts and real rooms inside them. The sky matches the real time there.
- Flux and characters: earn Flux for every focused minute, then spend it on clothes, hair and extras for your character. Designers can make and sell their own items.
- Music: playlists, uploads, artists, albums, offline downloads and a player that keeps going on every page.
- Desk Assistant: chat with Claude right on your desk with your own key or plan. An AI connector (MCP) lets outside AI apps read your files with your OK.
- Blueprints and Toolbox: plans for anything, made with AI, with dated tasks that flow into your planner. Plus a Toolbox of tools you can share to Discover.
- 13 languages: the whole app is translated, and what people type stays as they typed it.
- Rooms: a 3D room made from your profile, on a shared world grid of everyone's rooms (rooms by @goatiab).
- Privacy: every post, project and gallery can be public, followers, friends, custom or private. You pick who can message you, and you can block anyone.
How it works
- Stack: Next.js 16 (App Router and Server Actions), React 19, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS 4 and shadcn/ui.
- Data and sign-in: PostgreSQL on Supabase through Prisma 7. Better Auth handles email, Google, GitHub, Apple and WeChat sign-in.
- Live chat: each tab keeps one Server-Sent Events connection to an in-memory pub/sub hub. Messages, reactions, typing and read receipts show up right away, and it catches up on its own after a reconnect.
- One privacy engine: a single set of rules decides who can see what. The feed, search, profiles, chat cards and the sitemap all use it.
- Fast images: photos are cropped and shrunk in the browser before upload, stored on Backblaze B2, and shown with a tiny preview first.
- 3D: three.js draws the study spots, buildings, rooms and characters. Buildings are built from simple shapes, and the campus map comes from OpenStreetMap.
- AI: the Desk Assistant runs on the person's own Claude key or plan, and an MCP server gives AI apps safe, scoped access.
- Installable app: a PWA with offline support and Web Push, hosted on Render with scheduled jobs for reminders and weekly summaries.
